The public perception is changing. People no longer look at race and sex as negatives. Race and sex is no longer a detriment to a resume, it may now be a positive. Presidents of companies all around the nation are looking to diversify their team and present a more well-rounded image. Maybe the best example defending our nation's move away from racial and sexual segregation is the fact that the one of our Democratic candidates is a woman, while the other is an African-American man. Twenty or thirty years ago, there was no way in hell that an African-American man or a woman would have ever won a primary. They wouldn't have even come close! The crazy thing about 2008 is, not only is one of them going to win the primary. One of the candidates is going to have a pretty good shot at winning the election for the Presidency.
Something few people forget about the upcoming Presidential election, is which ever candidate wins the Democratic side. Whether it is the African-American male, Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton, the white female. I guarantee you that Democratic nominee will win their race (in Obama's case) or sex (in Clinton's case) by a landslide. That alone may have a huge impact on the race. Not too mention all of the other votes each of these candidates will pickup.
Going back to the future of diversity in the United States...You know that by 2025 more than half of our nation is supposed to be filled with non-white people? Can you imagine that? What is our nation going to be like? I wonder how we will be perceived in the eye of the world. It will probably help us. How will it effect our image? In such an image conscious society, I think that is a big issue with the growing number of foreign people joining our great country. I have nothing against it, but it is going to be interesting to see how our country reacts to the diversity changes that are projected to occur in the very near future.
